Scuba, aviation is one hell of a job to get into at the best of times, unfortunately we are our worst enemies.
I cant think of many other industries where people are as dedicated and willing to spend so much money in getting qualified.
Unfortunately it is a gamble and we play into employers hands, but with persistance most people win out in the end.
I cant comment on the US scene right now, but your situation is pretty typical here too.
I know its not what you want to hear right now, but hang in there.
