Really? If Virgin is turning down applicants with 777 experiece (without an interview) to fly their dilapidated 400s on the milk-run Whorelando and Caribbean routes (one FO on the 400 told me recently he was very bored and he hated the "bloody hot" Caribbean and Orlando flying in the summer), then perhaps you should look elsewhere. Really - Virgin's standards are either too high or their HR people are completely daft.
I realise a high percentage of Ryanair and Easy pilots apply once they hit a certain number of hours and it is difficult to stand-out if you are one of those pilots, but it sounds like the bar is going much higher and higher. Or you need to win the lotto/know somebody high in the organisation to get an interview.
Unless you are attempting to return to the UK from the Middle East, perhaps you should follow the growth to the ME where your experience will be more appreciated...
