However comma, it's still not the figure I'm curious about. The projected life expectancy might be 45.5 at 40. What is it at 55? How many die of boredom in short order?
I think that generally we're probably better at looking after ourselves than previous generations (the old joke "if I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself" may not have the same resonance these days).
My GP ran one of these life expectancy programms and saw that my virtual age was 61 and I could live to 93. But he then commented that "you're not even taking the statins". Damn right I'm not.
