Yes this is true, found out today talking to a local travel agent.
At last an airline has discovered that a lot of people in SE Queensland and beyond also want to travel to Hawaii without having to endure the trip through Sydney, YUK.
Having just come back a month ago, I can speak from experience that it wasn't a pleasant "diversion".
The flight from YBSU was expensive and then the nonsense of changing terminals with a long wait to depart and then coming back required an overnight stay in Sydney to connect next day to YBSU.
A good move by Hawaiian and I'm sure they will find it economically viable.
Now why didn't Jet* beat them to the route, I suppose now they will start a service to provide "competition".
