I'd suggest checking the SSID as it might be one already 'known' to your laptop (e.g. 'Netgear') and hence your laptop is passing credentials at the handshaking phase and failing as none are required. If so, just delete the stored wifi of that SSID.

Failing that, you're probably screwed as it might be either:

1) the AP needs resetting to allow your laptop to connect
2) your wifi drivers may need updating
3) the channel the AP is broadcasting on isn't available to your card (despite the SSID beaconing being picked up)
