At present the two airlines compete out of Cork to London, Malaga, Lanzarote, Teneriffe, Gran Canaria, Faro, Barcelona and Alicante. I've no doubt that apart from London, competition on the other routes would cease if any merger takes place. At present Shannon has nothing to lose as both airlines don't compete directly apart from London. I'd also expect that there would be considerable consolidation in Dublin and that the consumer would be much worse off. This proposal will be a disaster for Irish Aviation if it goes through. It'll drive fares up and passengers down. The overseas carriers will not bother competing as they know that most Irish people will not even be aware of their brand.
