This line from the above email regarding training bonds is particularly interesting:
All Aircraft Type-Rating courses including full and shortened transition courses. The bond is USD 50000 for Captains, First Officers and Fast Track Second Officers. It is USD 75000 for Ab Initio/ Second Officers.
I presume this could be the reason why several current QR 777 drivers have been "unwilling" to move to the 787 - they don't want the type rating bond held over their heads... At least that is what I have heard. I guess if you are a current QR A320 pilot and you want off that tiring schedule, getting typed and bonded on the 787 might be considered OK by some. Although I bet the 787 rosters will eventually be just as exhausting - just different scenary.
