As long as you encourage managers to destroy their own departments through ridiculous KPI/Bonus programs QF was only going in one direction.
What other company in the world would shut down departments who were world leaders in their field? It's insanity.
The QF and the Ansett debacles are as a result of incompetent management and greed which is so prevalent in Aviation.
Aviation is not hard to make money if you run airlines as airlines and not some sort of money spinning venture or in the case of Ansett as a cash cow for News Ltd.
Murdoch buggered up Ansett and Joyce (or who ever he's working for) will bugger up QF
