From a fly on the wall, that is the plan. The lure of sacking half the Groups staff and replacing them by employees on lower wages and conditions is just too lucrative for any board to pass up. Step one was spruik International as dead weight for the Qantas Group. Spend nearly a year on media releases touting International as a negative $200 million chain around the groups neck. Lots of spin claiming International had nothing to do with the $500 million profit from domestic, FF, cargo, Jetstar, etc. Carefully hide much of Jetstars costs so they appear on the International negative balance sheet. Step two commenced today. Isolate International from the Qantas Group. Step 3 will be the bankruptcy declaration of the now stand alone International arm. Domestic, FF, cargo, of course need an international feed to be profitable, despite said spin above, but will still be fed via implementation of step 4, all international serviced by Jetstar 787's and A330's. Lot's of backslapping going on in the board room congratulating each other on being masters of the universe over the clueless government and general public.
