I think maybe the problem is not that your instructor would not listen to you, but the other way round - The problem with guys who teach themselves, be it Flying via the Sim or anything else, is that they
get it wrong!! This is why most instructors WILL start at the begining and cover the complete syllabus! What will happen though is that if you actually listen to him and pick up the bits you have got wrong, rather than sit there thinking you know it already, you will learn much quicker.
