A Rssian Sukhoi Superjet-100 aircraft disappeared from the radars in Indonesia today. Russian traveller blogger Sergei Dolya named the pilots who were flying the plane: Alexandr Yablontsev and co-pilot Alexandr Kochetkov. Ria Novosti named another 6 Russians onboard: navigator Oleg Shvetsov, flight engineer Akexie Kirkin, chief engineer for fly-outs Denis Rakhimov, deputy chief for fly-outs Nikolai Martyshenko, Sukhoi company sales director Evgeny Grebenschikov and contract manager Kristina Kurzhukoba. All in all there are 44 people on the jet, 8 Russians and 36 foreign nationals.
The main theory right now for Indonesian authorities is a highjacking.
The plane disappeared from radars early on May 9. "They asked permission to descend from 10,000 feet to 6,000, started a u-turn and disappeared," Sergei Dolya reports in his twitter from Jakarta. He said there's a montain in the area 6,200 feet high, and that local authorities working on the highjacking theory.
The blogger thinks the jet should have run out of fuel by now. "Emergency radar that would have switched on in case of a crash, hasn't turned on yet, so there is still hope."
The Superjet 100, built by the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft corporation, was conducting international demonstration flights in Asia and didn't return to the airport as scheduled.
