Public domain (PPJN) suggests top take home around 8000 euros after tax. I am always nervous about using reported figures. But if you divide 45 million by 2000 you come up with an average saving per person of over 20,000 euros. Clearly captains earn the most and will therefore face a much bigger reduction if these numbers are true.

There seems to be an expectation over here in the german speaking world that many will leave. The LH group employs pilots on a pretty wide range of conditions and has become more radical in its approach over recent years, for example look at Lufthansa Italia. The forced transfer of existing employees to a lower paying subsidiary seems to me though to be a new approach, although that is effectively what happened at Swiss. It was however before LH took over.

Are they going to try the same in Germany one day?
