Departure Maintenance Checks

Can a few of you fellas give me some reliable information on the prevalence of Maintenance Departure Checks involving Licenced Engineers (A&P/LAE/LAME) in both International and Domestic Operations, wherever you are stationed.
By Departure Maintenance Checks, I include a Maintenance Preflight to determine airworthiness/serviceability, Fuelling/Servicing, doors secured and locked, and whether or not you are involved in the pushback as well.
If you do not get involved, i.e. are only there for defect rectification, do the pilots carry out a more in depth preflight than that required in the AFM and if so do they receive any extra training.

Cheers
