PukinDog, the point is to
communicate your predicament. If communication conditions are poor then priming the listener by using standard attention grabbing words such as MAYDAY or PAN PAN is a good place to start. Now you've grabbed his full attention & he can listen to your mumblings attentively instead of thinking "what was that?". If you continue to use standard phraseology it is easier for the listener to make out what is being said in poor conditions. He isn't left trying to guess what you're mumbling. FFS it's
