Once the motor has overheated the magnetic strength of the permanent magnets will be diminished resulting in a permanently screwed starter motor. Subsequent starts will draw more current and produce less starting torque, resulting in the motor getting hotter quicker and making it more likely to further damage the magnets eventually turning the motor into an electric heater rather than as a startermotor...
