if you takeoff with reduced climb, as the rate of climb decreases the thrust will increase until you have actually reached max climb thrust, so the reduced thrust was washed out. As an airline you can also set the altitude that you want reduced climb thrust to be washed out.

I've not read about anything like this in any of the Airbus manuals. Could it be just a Boeing thing? Or have I just missed it?
