Although DEP pilot recruitment is on hold, I would expect BA to continue with the FPP scheme once the BMI merger and other external factors become more clear to BA. It has been internally stated by flight ops that BA will source the majority of its future pilot intake from the FPP scheme (some 400 pilots).
All FPP are on a reduced salary for a number of years. Therefore, it is cost effective for BA to do this. Furthermore, all FPP graduates go onto the shorthaul fleets which would be more palatable for those individuals than DEPs (who would often join BA for a LH position).
