The pix I've seen of Capt O P Jones, one of BOAC's most accomplished Captains, show him sporting a beard that would have gone down well with the most senior of the Senior Service...
Plus of course after WWII, most of the BOAC types were ex RAF and sported 'taches.
The only thing that I'd penalise someone on would be designer stubble.
