Thanks again BOAC. Perhaps there was a bit of mis-communication or, as you say, a clumsy attempt at humour. If the latter it sounds like the cabin crew didn't appreciate it either.
Perhaps the unusually heavy braking was purely coincidental. Worth asking the question though.
