Based at Breighton, where you need annual membership of £55. No other gotchas or dodgy "new member fees" etc, and the school seem very approachable from what I've seen and who I've met and chatted to there.
So in your terms, that's PPL HIRE for £100/hr.
The other option would be Full Sutton, where (last time I checked) you can fly C150/152 or a PA28-140 for £90/hr. Their membership is something like a tenner per month or £95 annual.
Aircraft Hire and Flying Lessons Rates for Cessna, Piper and Slingsby Aircraft are amongst the lowest in the country Cas Smith is a nice bloke and plenty helpful, and they have a good little operation there.
You could always buy a share in a group or whatever too, but I don't have any experience of that... I live by the mantra: "If it flies, floats or f*cks, pay for it by the hour!" ;-)
