Pamplin said the CC-130 Hercules had conducted its refuelling exercise and was doing touch and go routines landing and taking off and was only about 40 metres in the air when the loadmaster in the rear discovered the fire and notified the crew.
He (the pilot) landed straight ahead and brought the airplane to a stop and . . . the entire crew evacuated (from the plane) Pamplin said, noting that it is one of the five especially configured Hercules aircraft in the Canadian Forces that can conduct air-to-air refuelling.
Very quick thinking - well done that team!
