To have the same quality of life in São Paulo as I have in Europe, I would have to spent more than double in São Paulo.
This is a complete normal mechanism, and the most expensive cities are - due to the mentioned effect - are third world cities like Teheran, Lagos or Harare.
But you cannot compare the standard of living. If you want to live in Brazil, you have to adapt a local lifestyle, and this is much lower than Europe.
Of course Europe is paradise, but we discussed the possibility of changing Brazil for NE-Asia.
