There's a thread on the Flyer forum at the moment giving a couple of examples of where local airfields have been closed down and the locals are now regretting it. Apparently this is because the land has been developed (surprise, surprise!
) and now, rather than the occasional 'irritating' buzz of light aircraft during the day, they're plagued by the noise of articulated lorries loading up at all hours, as well as new roads, increased traffic, 'loitering youths', and an increase in related crime.
