And risk spending more on fictitious pre test tests? Or perhaps adding a few hours when they aren't required? If it's really that bad and you've done all you can then contact a GOOD school and talk it through with them, they will obviously encourage you to come but more importantly will talk you through the process of what they have to do. It could get complicated so think about it carefully.

Consider very carefully yes, contact the CAA? That would be a huge mistake. I have not once ever heard someone come away with a positive or helpful outcome from a discussion with the CAA. I have had helpful discussions with people that work at the CAA just rarely a helpful outcome after a discussion that involved them doing anything out of the ordinary, it gets very paper heavy and slopey shoulders.
