if recent findings are to be believed, there are electromagnetic radiation which can exceed the speed of light
IIRC these were neutrinos. They will affect people on the equator at midnight just as much as people at altitude in polar daylight ie not at all. Difficult to detect or be damaged by them because you have to stop them to detect them or be damaged by them and most of them will go though most things including a light year of lead.
