Yes it can. Just make sure you don't double book the time and make sure the hand over of command is clearly agreed and the times noted.
Although the PIC is the CPL holder can the PPl holder Log the time at the controls.
However see note above, you must hand over command and not double log.
We do this at work when on long transit flights. SPA with 2 crew so split the command time.
