Yes - reaching Gibraltar was a bit odd. It's so long ago I don't remember the exact scenario, but having flown from Faro all along Spain, we had to go out over the ocean to escape Spanish airspace before turning into Gibraltar. Quite un-necessary, but then so are many politicians

It was interesting that whilst approaching they closed the road across the runway, so the rock was effectively "closed" to anyone except my 172 for a little while. The RAF were running it then, and made us more than welcome. It gave me a taste for PARs too - if ever I can't make a regular approach for any reason, I'd certainly try to find one of these if available nearby. Pity there are less active RAF stations these days.......
