Don't take this as gospel but the way i understand it is.....
under FAA rules ( i take it you're JAA, CAA ) you can log PIC, P1 time by acting as safety pilot while your buddy flies under the hood. Therefore you are actually only getting 50 hrs hands on and 50 hrs right seat 'pretending' to be a safety pilot, also you are usually restricted to flying the plane when it's not in demand by the school, ie: dusk till dawn..!
like I said, don't take this as gospel...its just the way it was explained to me.
