In addition to what ampan has written, could you explain for the benefit of the ignorant if the TACAN at McMurdo was capable of providing both distance
and bearing info, thus capable of alerting the crew to their mistaken position. I'm assuming it would, but I constantly read that it was "equivalent to" civilian DME, not "VOR/DME"
