BMRR re pilots heading for the golf course - normal retirement rates will not resume for another 4 years.
Normal retirement rates for BA depend on the timing of recruitment bulges, those enjoying the moving of the retirement age to 65 represent the last of the bulge that was due to retire in mid-noughties. BA predicted that they would all be gone by 60, very few have done so and the take-up of part-time working has also been low in this group, I'm not convinced that this will change significantly in the next 4 years. In any case, once that bulge has gone in 4-5 years the next largest block of retirees are the Prestwick cadets from the very late 80's/early 90's, there was very little recruitment in the 80's. Most of this group are in their early 40's/late 30's and once they reach the top without massive expansion, which is unlikely given the prospective take-over of BMi and the government's refusal to countenance a 3rd runway at LHR, there is little prospect there will be any significant movement in the seniority list for 20 years.
