Russ Conway, the British pianist, served in the navy and was awarded the DSM for bravery.
I never knew about the DSM ,
O-D, do you have any info on that? I know he cut the end of one of his fingers off in a bread slicer when he was serving (didn't seem to affect his playing) but I assume the DSM was for something a bit more heroic!
