Selection and Training for LAPD Air Support Division
The requirements to apply for Command Pilot are
minimum of 5 years with the Department
at least three years in patrol
an FAA Private pilot’s license
100 hours PiC.
After selection
approx six months of intense helicopter training
includes obtaining FAA commercial rotorcraft rating
check ride with our Chief Pilot to get Command Pilot "Wings".
Then the usual ongoing training, proficiency check rides.
