Given that the rudder pedal breakout force is close to that required for full deflection (all of 1.3 inches
) at the accident airspeed, my stone axe engineering approach would be to install a gas strut on the rudder pedals which would allow an even modulation of force. Obviously the strut would offer a resistance somewhat greater than the breakout force. Some serious engineering will be required to effectively modulate over a 1.3" stroke.
And how will the longer stroke in the low speed case be handled?
