Grandad Flyer,
Be delighted to. Certainly dont have rich parents, but did have their support right the way through it all which as many of you out there will appreciate is as important.
Was one of the very lucky few who was offered sponsorship by Atlantic Airlines, was taken on whilst still studying for my A'levels at 6th form, and went straight into ATPL ground school. FO on the electra at 19 (after being an instructor for 9 months), just got my left seat before christmas.
Got my PPL at 17 by working every spare hour in Tesco's and a local Flying School, recieving tuition rather than payment.
Thats basically it, very very lucky. I appreciate the fact that without such good luck, and the sponsorship scheme, would most likely still be mudling through now.
The very best of good luck to all out there trying to make it into the front seat, whatever your age.
