Why are indirect flights cheaper?
Hi there,
I just booked a return flight to Tokyo from Gatwick via Frankfurt (Lufthansa) and it cost: £563 via a Japanese Travel Specialist in London.
However..
- The same flight booked direct with Lufthansa was £620
- The Frankfurt to Tokyo leg direct with Lufthansa was €850 / £730
- A direct flight with BA/Virgin from LHR is £1000+
Why is it a lot cheaper, not just say £100?
Is it the taxes here, or there? Competition on different sectors etc?
Its actually leaving UK on Easter Saturday, so bang in school holidays.
However I am not complaining, just curious of how it all works!
I could of got it for £535 from LHR via Swiss/Zurich, but I live near Gatwick, so if you factor the time and transport it worked out better.
