While there is a lull in the current aerodynamic discussion, an Airbus initiative on future FDR options has been published in the August 2011 edition of
FAST TECHNICAL MAGAZINE-#48. In light of the difficulty in locating AF447, the options they are exploring for pre-crash alerting, jettisoned ELT and floatable QAR devices are touched on. Well worth a look.
