but please remember that the CAA for certain, and many elements of EASA are working their socks off to make this change as low impact as possible

Yes, I do understand that, but in an open society we positively
don't trust anything that goes on behind closed doors, and nor should we. However hard people are working for us, when things are not exposed to the harshest light of public scrutiny (even for good reasons) they must expect skepticism and at times criticism, even if unjustified. Goes with the territory.
