I'm trying to imagine how loud the screams - and how huge the demonstrations - would have been if it had been Tony Abbott who had announced exactly what Juliar Gillard has just lobbed on the Australian populace without one minute of debate in Parliament. I never thought I'd ever find myself agreeing on anything with Bob Brown, but in this case, he has a point. (Not that I'd be on the same side of the debate with Brown if it was held.)
I was listening to the ABC (AM programme) this morning and actually felt pity for the poor ABC reporter as he tried manfully not to burst into tears at not having Tony Abbott to "blame" for the US forces coming to Australia.
I wonder what was in the briefing Juliar received from the Yanks (or how truly unpleasant the alternatives were that were painted for her) that led her to this decision and the decision to back the sale of uranium to India? Pretty nasty alternatives, I'm assuming.
