Thank you Crash Dive and Buttons. I don't think security is too much of an issue because, though I have broadband, it is not "always on". My greatest danger is myself and I don't have to be on line to do the damage

Without being ungrateful, CD, my preference is to try to make the RDC work if I can, my logic being that it's better to use the built-in software and make it do what it's supposed (and touted) to do rather than load up the system with add-ons that do the same thing.

Having said that, I looked at your link and it seems that WinVNC is pretty thin and therefore wouldn't be much of a burden. I'll try it if I can't get RDC working soon.
