Ryanair Calendars

My niece is starting with Ryanair soon and is worried about onboard sales. She has heard of new cabin crew disciplined or even let go becasue they didn't sell enough to pax. In particular she's worried that attempting to flog charity calendars to passengers could detract from her sales of other stuff and mean she is below target. They cost £10 each, I think.

Are calendar sales compulsory? Like will she be given a target of calendars to sell? And will the company make an allowance for her if she sells enough calendars but not enough food, drink and scratchcards? Does she get commission on calendars?

She also says that she heard last year cabin crew were told they had to buy their own calendars at some base or another because sales were below target. Could this possibly be true? I find it amazing - perhaps one of these silly Ryanair stories that turn out not be true (like holding in the windows with duct tape!). I've told her not to worry, no airline could be that bad.
