andyy and others. I agree entirely that GUZZ , tactically, is the best Base we have. Far more useful than Pompey for searoom and open sea access. If only fat Herman had bombed Cremyll Point while he was in the neighbourhood.

Another complication for GUZZ, though, is that their support storage and handling capacity and facilities have been run down to near sod all. On the other hand, the storage and handling in Pompey is now DSDA's and it's probably the most modern and efficient they have. It certainly beats Donnington for the "fast movers". Additionally the bang/whoosh facilities in Ernesettle have also shrunk to bugger all while those in Turktown have been pretty much retained. Thereagain, Thanckes OFJ is usable whereas Gosport OFJ is barely so.

As regards Roborough being essential to the survival HMNB Devonport, I really can't follow the argument; even from a loggie's angle.
