The Harrier could not have continued in Service from the moment the Coalition Partners looked at the books following the last General Election. The 2 new Carriers could not be cancelled because of the constraints of the Contracts signed by the outgoing Administration which would have cost more to cancel than it would have to build. The financial "Black Hole" in the Defence Budget which the Incoming Administration had to address will haunt the UK Armed Forces for years to come.
