I sent the link to the tax fraud article to a friend who has worked for many years in Nigeria and sees many positives to the place - something we disagree on but he knows the place and the people far better than I do.

There’s usually a way of sorting out tax problems in Nigeria. It was my job to pay the first tax bill for our company in Nigeria, after a startup tax holiday. The business had become profitable and the tax cheque was huge. I took it personally to the Chief Inspector of Taxes in the State Capital, expecting to be feted for doubling the state’s tax revenues. Instead he was angry that I hadn’t given him the opportunity of negotiating the bill downwards !
And I suspect that Arik will find that there is room for negotiation too !!!
