Well I suppose he got a QCBA, but really, this is another example of a well-entrenched parsimony in handing out gallantry awards in this country. I am not for a minute saying that Lieut Higgins did not deserve his AFC, but why was this award denied to Lt Cdr Chesterman, and indeed the other crew members mentioned, who displayed at least equal heroism?
Couldn't be anything to do with the fact that they're not pilots, could it? No, perish the thought
