Anyone remember Stanley Lane ..... he was kinda the odd job man in Cork for IHL .

At the time we were modding up BLY for the standby SAR machine . He was kinda doing the painting on the 61 . He had various proposals for what the final paint scheme would be like , However , IHL commisioned a graphic designer down in the city to prepare some proposals as well .

Stanley wasnt impressed ..... at all . Cuz he was supposed to be the boss of this side of things . Plus the fact that this designer was of Asian origin . Stanley became very difficult with him ..... nothing was right , and every little thing he could find was wrong ..... LMAO . Helicopters wernt the only thing flying at IHL at that time , the insults were flying more !!!

Well , yaknow the big visibility dayglo orange chevrons on the belly of the 61 ..... well , I was cutting holes in the belly of it , inspection holes for looking under the floor of the baggage hold and fuel tanks , and Stanley was masking off the area that had to be painted ..... we finished our job and went to the pub for the evening while Stanley stayed in the hangar to paint the dayglo orange chevrons , overnight .

Now he did a pretty good job of it , except that the chevrons he sprayed wernt dayglo orange ..... they were dayglo alright ..... but they were pink !!! We cracked up the following morning .

He tried blaming the little Asian bloke and there was murder . Cant exactly remember what happened but , it all had to be rubbed down and in the end they were the correct color .

He also had a trench dug in the hangar floor where he was servicing the 40mm bofors gun from the Irish Navy ships ..... the gun mount was cemented into the floor and he had the gun mounted inside the pit . I just remember the pit . he was a funny man .
