If we're talking about punishments (aside from losing his job, which seems somewhat unavoidable now), you only have to look back to the case of the Rt Hon David Blunkett MP when, as a home secretary, he fraudulently abused the travel warrant system and abused his position to get his lover's nanny's visa application sorted out. He didn't actually get sacked, he resigned after several months. But his punishment for demonstrating a lack of integrity that would put a journalist to shame was.... nothing. Not a sausage.
