Duplex mismatching is nothing to do with the cable. It's to do with the implementation of duplexing autonegotiation as the interpretation of the RFC varied a lot, meaning that a lot of the times certain NIC manufacturers won't reliably negotiate the correct speed with other NIC manufacturers.
To fix this, go into the NIC settings and hardcode what it's supposed to be, rather than "autonegotiate".
