Qantas Signs Long Term Commercial Agreement With Rio Tinto 06 October 2011

Qantas today announced that it has signed a new three year agreement with Rio Tinto. The new agreement will see Qantas continue to be the major air Service provider for Rio Tinto’s Australian and international operations.

Qantas Group Executive Commercial Rob Gurney said he was pleased that the airline’s long standing partnership with Rio Tinto would continue.

“Qantas has been Rio Tinto’s preferred airline for more than ten years. As a key business partner we are proud to offer Rio Tinto more flights more often, premium service on the ground and in the air, plus access to our extensive regional, domestic, and international network.”

Rio Tino’s Global Head of Procurement Scott Singer was also supportive of the agreement.

“This long term agreement with Qantas enables our organisation to grow and optimises mutual commercial opportunities.”

The recent expansion of Qantas’s fly-in-fly-out operations through the airlines purchase of resource charter airline Network Aviation will also support a range of Rio Tinto projects in Western Australia.

The new Qantas and Rio Tinto agreement has now commenced.
