Today I was sent to ferry back a forgotten Lake Amphibian - what a beautiful plane! At some point in it's life, it had been very well cared for. Not recently though. With ferry permit in hand, I had to inflate three totally flat tires, and change the battery. After the requisite very detailed walkaround, draining of all sumps and so forth, and long warm up and ground run, it took to the air like a homesick angel.
As I flew it high on a pristine day, I took the time to dig out the journey log, and see what it had been doing recently - Nothing! This poor plane had not moved from it's tiedowns since June 2010. Well, it seemed very happy to fly now. After it's annual inspection, I'll take it into the water on a demo flight to a prospective buyer. I hope it will find new appreciation.
That plane brings my tally (and the return from my thread drift) to 222 individual aircraft I have recorded flying as PIC.
