Apologies for the intrusion on this part of the forum. What would the FOs pay be including per-diems? Not a great deal more looking at the latest on ppjn.
If I can I will give you an industry comparison. I recently took four young lads (22-25) from off the street through to qualified train drivers in just under a year. Their training salary was £23k for a 35hr 5 day week. Now qualified and driving productively their basic is £43k for a 35hr 4 day week with no Sundays contracted to work. If they work their allocated Sundays (about 20 a year) thats another £6k ish. Most of the younger lads work an extra 3 days a month at an enhanced rate, put another £7/8k on top.
Given that a 35hr working week probably averages out at 20-28 hrs actual driving it compares well to airline flying hours.
The main difference, leaving the salary aside, is that the lads did not pay a penny for their training, medicals, travel, uniform and even got a free buffet lunch every day while in the school.
I do feel for the airline wannabes, sure there are greater rewards when in the left seat and with a better paying airline but for how long can the industry pay paltry salaries and expect young people to take out what in essence is a mortgage on their future.
